Do you suffer from Shiny Object Syndrome?
For those not familiar with Shiny Object Syndrome: It’s the chasing of the next “Big Thing,” the current “Flavor of the Month,” the promise of cash flow using the ‘EASY’ button that turns a click of your mouse into ever-flowing greenbacks.
Looking for the Goose to lay that Golden Egg has left the, less than focused business owner spinning their wheels, keeping them from getting any closer to the multiple income streams and living the life they desire and deserve.

Shiny Object Syndrome Doesn’t Need to Hold You Back from Success
Interestingly enough, for those that are starting a new online business, shiny objects floating around cyberspace’s own social media networks and your email inbox every single day can be the biggest deterrent for success. It doesn’t need to be that way!
The sales pitches are alluring and fierce, promising riches with the push of a button, “PUSH this Button and Watch the Money Flow into Your Bank Account… Now at The Limited, Low Introductory Price of ONLY $19.97… This is a ONE Time OFFER, It Will NOT Be Repeated, ACT NOW!”
So you buy into it believing that this is the one piece that has been missing to lead you in the direction of success, that will present you with a breakthrough and start making money.
The thoughts rolling around in the back of your mind are whispering to you that if this were true, it wouldn’t be sold for a mere $19.97, but because you are hopeful and perhaps a little desperate, you are willing to roll the dice and give it a try… after all, it’s only 20 bucks.
I have to admit, I too have fallen for the shiny new objects syndrome. I too have thought that maybe this offer, that has possible fabricated testimonials and a low cost, might change my direction for success. I was wrong.
The Internet marketing industry is relying on you to give their offer its full attention. You are aware that it is probably another fly by night, sheets to the wind, promise to get rich on autopilot scheme, but you buy into it anyways.
Those people in the Internet industry, that are trying to make a quick buck, are counting on the weaker bunch to buy into their get rich quick offers that are lurking around every corner.
If you continue to have the mindset of a consumer, you will continue to chase that alluring ‘EASY’ button.
How to Stop Shiny Object-itis Syndrome
Focus, focus, focus… the root of the problem is your mindset. One little tweak of your thoughts can be the difference between success and failure with your Internet-based business.
Once you make a mindset shift from ‘Consumer’ to ‘Business’ owner, your business will start to flourish and gain ground. You will care less about the quick fix and more about your bottom line for the business adventure you are working on.
So, How Do You Do That?
#1 – Run Your Business Don’t Let it Run YOU!
A great starting point in overcoming your desire to grab every shiny object to hit cyberspace is to have an overpowering desire to succeed as a business.
You’ve all heard the saying before… until you begin treating what you do like a business, it will be nothing more than a hobby. Any way you slice it, you must remain focused on your daily tasks at hand, to grow your business.
Why Are You Involved in Your Own Business?
#2 – Have Your “Why” Established
It is of the utmost importance to have a powerful “Why” established to help keep your dream alive.
Make sure your Why is strong and powerful enough to keep you motivated and driven. Have it written down in a place where you can look at it daily and particularly on those days when you are ready to grab your credit card for the next shiny new object jumping out at you on your computer screen?
Now That You Have Your ‘WHY’ established, What’s Next?
#3 – Set Goals for Yourself
Setting goals for yourself begins with having a strong desire. Just like your “Why,” write your goals down in a place where you can look at them for those days when the next, new shiny object speed bump rears its ugly head.
When writing your goals to view daily, make sure to put the date you want to reach your goal, the amount of money you want to make by that time or level you would like to reach in your business, etc.
Write it ALL down, think big, but make it realistic so as to not disappoint yourself if you don’t get close. Raise the bar each time you make progress towards your goal.
You Have Your Goals Set, Now it’s Time to Strategize!
#4 – Choose Only a Couple of Strategies to Master at One Time
Do NOT overwhelm yourself with trying to accomplish too many projects at one time. We have all been guilty of doing this at one time or another, including myself.
Focusing on too many projects at one time is going to kill your business… be patient with the business in front of you and your success will be won over with your persistence and tenacity.
To Help YOU Continue With Your Strategy…
#5 – Never Stop Educating Yourself
If you’ve been following any of my other articles, I continually state to never stop educating yourself. The wealthy people that roam this earth educate themselves daily through the reading of books related to their careers.
I have just finished the amazing book from Robert Kiyosaki – Rich Dad Poor Dad. This book is worth a read for those wanting to refocus their efforts to gain wealth… I highly recommend it.
The book I am reading right now is Donald Trump’s – Think Big and Kick-Ass. Damn, what a great read… I am on the third chapter, and I am hooked. There is a reason these two men are wealthy… it is all in their mindset and daily habits.
The top leaders and top income earners in today’s business world are also top learners… did you know that 88% of the wealthy read for at least 30 minutes each day, while only 2% of the poor do likewise… their library of books is bigger than their DVD collection; a lesson to all of us wanting to be wealthy.
While ON Your Path of Education…
#6 – Find a Hero
Robert Kiyosaki mentions in his book Rich Dad Poor Dad to find a Hero for you to follow as your mentor. If you want to be successful, do what successful people do.

#7 – Remain Consistent
To help you break shiny object syndrome, you must stay focused and organized.
Keeping a To-Do list is a great place to keep your business on track.
We’ve all fallen into the trap of ‘Spinning Our Wheels’. Success is a matter of habitual behavior. Being organized by keeping a to-do list is one of the habits of the wealthy that may seem too simple to be true.

During Your Daily Activities…
#8 – Make Daily Positive Choices
Making positive choices each and every day, no matter how small, can create good healthy habits that will pay off in the long run. Simply stated… your choices, negative or positive, will be reflected in your results.
AND…
#9 – Do NOT Ever Quit
This is a BIG ONE! The ONLY way you will not be successful in your business is by quitting. Many successful business owners of today at one time or another, had thoughts of quitting, but didn’t, and that’s why they are where they are now; some of the TOP INCOME EARNERS of our time!
The most successful business owners of today reached their successes due to the fact that they did not throw in the towel at the first sign of adversity or failure. They picked themselves up, got back on their feet and chalked up their failure as another learning experience; like Thomas Edison and the light bulb, a way that will not work.
Conclusion – Shiny Object Syndrome
Weak desire will, unfortunately, bring you weak results, just like a small flame will give you a small amount of heat.
Granted… not all home-based companies or Internet marketing businesses are a perfect fit for every person, but giving your business a 100% effort and creating positive habitual habits will help guide you to the success you desire.
Follow through with what you started. Be a Product of the Product. Plug into proven success systems. Stick with the basics and lean on your mentors to help you get started or continue down your path towards success.
At a minimum, you need to remain focused on your ultimate ‘Why’ and your Goal, think big and create a habit that will keep you on the straight and narrow.
